Zagros mountain is the second-highest mountain in Iran. Many nomads seasonally settle in these mountains and their tents are usually scattered all around the Poshtkuh area, which is one of the most beautiful villages in Iran that nomads in the past decided to permanently settle in. In our 3-day nomadic journey, we’ll drive a private 4WD car to show you a little bit of everything in this area. We’ll visit nomads and sleep in their tents to witness the traditional Bakhtiari lifestyle, visit Khoye Eco centre and museum, and hike past a waterfall and salt mine to reach the exotic village of Sar Agha Seyed.
Through this tour, we’ll enjoy the original nature of Zagros mountains, near the heads of Dez River, and we’ll be closely in touch with some nomadic families (among the remaining nomadic tribes in the world). We may even be lucky to see some nomadic families during their seasonal migration (Kooch)!

* This tour can be performed in 2 days & started from Isfahan as well.
* In winters, we may have to change directions a bit or do a little more walking or driving along the journey depending on the weather conditions in the mountainous areas so it’ll be better if you’re flexible to such minor changes and physically prepared for long walks.

Day by Day Plan

Day 1A Nomadic Village

Early in the morning, we’ll have a 5-hour drive to Aligudarz and then to the scenic landscape of Poshtkooh Mogouie (Bakhtiari Nomads’ summer pasture). After a 2-hour drive, we’ll reach Baznavid village where we’ll have lunch, followed by a 2-hour drive to reach the nomads we want to stay with for the night (Pirooz & Manije). Here we have the chance to soak up in the beauty of the unspoiled regions and unadulterated landscapes. The evening is ours to explore the area. For the night, we’ll either join the nomads in their stone house (leer) or camp by their tent in the pasture.

Day 2Khoye: An Organic Village

After breakfast, we’ll have a 4-hour drive to reach Khoye, a green village that is famous for its handicrafts. We’ll have a local dish for lunch, and then we’ll be free to relax and wander through the fruit gardens of the village. We can also explore the semi-nomadic lifestyle of the villagers. Watching women bake bread, weave rugs or nomadic tents, milk the goats, and make handicrafts, are some of the first-hand experiences we can have. We’ll stay in a village house for the night.

Day 3Sar Agha Seyed Village / Isfahan

In the morning, we’ll start the day’s hike toward the picturesque village of Sar Aqa Seyyed, which is a stepped village with unique architecture. We’ll pass the irrigated farms and continue through the trail of nomads’ migration. We’ll stop by a waterfall that comes running out of the cliffs. We’ll climb the mountain and walk down the other side to reach the salt mine local people have been using for centuries. After having lunch in a local house, we’ll leave for Koohrang, have a short stay there to have coffee, and then continue to reach Isfahan where we’ll experience a traditional Persian bath (Hammam).

  • Please note that the price depends on the number of participants on the tour. As we provide small group tours, 1 or 2 extra participants make a big difference because some of the fixed costs like car and guide are the same for 1-4 people.
    So, if you choose to go on this adventure with friends, the prices will be the following: €395 per person in a 2-people group, €355 per person in a 3-people group, and €295 in a 4-people group, etc.
  • In a 4-people group, all 4 travelers would be in one car. 
  • It is also possible for you to sign up for a tour from our calendar. This way, you could share the excitement and expenses and also meet more special people during your trip. In such a case, the price for you would be 265 EUR maximum even if we can not find any other travel buddies. The risk of providing the tour even for you alone with a lower price will be completely on our side. Don’t hesitate to grab this opportunity!
